2. Voter ID's
3. State level
4. An "enacted" policy that has been passed to help with a problem/issue that individuals/families face.
5. This affects individuals because it delays the voting process. Delaying votiing process can potentially discourage voters to cast a ballot.
6. This policy was enacted in the state of Texas after the
implementation of the Texas Voter ID law. This bill states that in early
elections you may only be able to vote if the name on your identification
matches exactly with the name on your voter registration. Senator Wendy Davis
experienced this challenge while trying to vote in her home state of Texas for
the early elections. This policy allows those who experience this issue to sign
an affidavit which will allow them to cast their vote. It seems like a pretty
simple process to be able to cast a vote, but there are several people who will
have a hard time doing so. The people most affected by this bill will be women.
Women change their names pretty commonly as they marry, divorce, and remarry as
well. Many argue that it is against women’s rights. By having to go through
this process and perhaps not even solving the issue with this affidavit it will
definitely discourage many voters. There then will be less votes during
elections and it can significantly impact election results. Ironically, women
fought hard for their voting rights, this amendment will now impact their right
to vote.
