Evolution proponents, critics clash at Texas school board’s textbook hearing

  1. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/headlines/20130917-evolution-proponents-critics-clash-at-texas-school-boards-textbook-hearing.ece
  2. Category of issue: Education
  3. Level of Problem: State Level
  4. The article concerns: Texas high school biology books that point to Charles Darwin’s theory as the only logical explanation for the origin of humans and other life forms on Earth.
  5. Why is it important to individuals/families or how does it affect them?  This affects families because this is tied directly to how their children are being taught. Many families already don't agree with science due to religion but having just one way of viewing evolution is also not a great idea. Teaching one evolution theory from Darwin will shape one way of our children/students to think on evolution.
  6. What are your views on the issue?
Personally, as technology advances, the theories we have come to know change as well. I wouldn't want my child to be taught one evolution theory knowing there is much more. I might be Catholic but that doesn't limit my knowledge and what I choose to believe in. As for future generations here in Texas, they should not be limited on biological knowledge, we as a state and nation need to advance our knowledge as fast as this world is changing. We as a nation are lagging behind other countries in Academics and it is our own government that is limiting what we should be taught. Not right, I hope Texas Board of Education allows the teachings of other theories on evolution.
