  2. Category of the problem: Educational
  3. Level of the problem: Local or State wide
  4. The article concerns: It concerns the use of students re-enacting as slaves.
  5. Why is it important to individuals/families or How does the issue affect individuals/families? This affects the students as individuals as well as the parents of these students. A student complained how he was traumatized after watching these re-enactments and how they used racial slurs.
  6. What are your views on the issue/ policy?
My views on this issue are that I think these people that sent the complaint are being really sensitive. It was a period in our history that was ugly, gloomy, and will never be forgotten. This is what we need to learn so we can realize we are moving forward in positive direction as a country. As a history lesson I can Understand why a teacher may use re-enactments, it usually helps the student learn quicker and from a point of view that closely simulates what really happened. As the article stated they are changing the activity due to the complaint, it is the easier way to handle this situation. You wouldn't want an up-rise of protests about racial slurs being re-enacted. So best to avoid before people get a little too sensitive and start to make a big deal of an issue that will always be brought up thanks to these very same sensitive people.
