House Passes Spending Bill Cutting Health Funds, Drawing Obama’s Scorn

  1. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/21/us/politics/house-spending-bill.html?pagewanted=2&_r=0&hp
  2. Category of the issue: Obama care
  3. Level of problem: National Level
  4. The article is concerning: The House of Representatives stopping the Obama Care bill.
  5. Why is this important to individual/families or How does this affect individuals/families? This is a huge deal, many Americans are relying on the Obama Care to finally be able to purchase Health insurance. Millions of Americans, including myself, have no health care what so ever. For those who have a chronic illness and can't get insurance, with this law they cannot be rejected. They will finally be able to afford the treatment they were dreading to go get because of how much of a financial burden it would have put on the individual.
  6. What are your views on the issue?
After reading this article I think I am actually more confused. At first I was all for Obama Care, I think it would help millions of people out. Then in the article some Republicans state comments on why they want to stop Obama Care. From what I understood, I was under the impression that the Republican filled House of Representatives were making themselves sound like heroes to the rescue. They mentioned how if they weren't to stop the bill the government will go under their first default and having the government shut down! Having this happen will have greater economic implications, what does this exactly mean? I am not quite sure but it does not sound good at all. Many Republicans in the House are also saying that the Obama Care law will actually increase costs for the Middle class and harm the economy. My views on this aren't as concrete as I would want them to be, I would have to do more research but as of now I am quite siding with the Republicans and the fact that they are stopping the bill for now.
