Agencies turn to backup plans as shutdown continues

1) http://www.mystatesman.com/news/news/local-govt-politics/agencies-turn-to-backup-plans-as-shutdown-continue/nbMJy/

2) Economic/Government

3) National

4) The article examines how many VA agencies are now coping with the ongoing shutdown, as well how low-income assistance organizations are getting along with the Nations current situation.

5) The article focuses on how the shutdown is directly affecting veterans, veteran education programs, veteran employment representatives, WIC, and other federal agencies across the nation. The shutdown has left these organizations to fend for themselves and come up with a plan to survive however long they plan on holding out with the shutdown.

6) It's hard to believe we are going on day 12 of the Government Shutdown and as one of the directors said in the article,  none of these things are affecting the Congress, they have no need to stop this shutdown,” and I couldn't agree more. While some congressmen and women have either deferred their pay or donated it to a government agency of their choice, that is not receiving government assistance at the time, many have not, and are sitting pretty so to speak. While the government fails to agree on anything, men and women who fought for the country are out of work, out of money and out of their homes. Along side them are low-income women and families who depend on WIC to help them provide for themselves and their children, while at the same time WIC can hardly provide for itself anymore, and is relying on the church they rent their space from to be understanding of the situation and go without pay, which in turn hurts them financially. While we all sit and wait for decisions to be made, money is running out, food is running out, space is running out, and the American people's patients is wearing thin. How much longer can congress hold off before people start taking the matter into their worn hands?
