Educational choices are something Americans take advantage of having as well as
something other country’s citizens wish they could take advantage of, too.

Just the other day, I was discussing which type
of education I would want for my children: a public education in the public
school systems, a private education in a private school, or to simply give my
children an education from home through homeschooling. To me, this seemed like
a rather tough decision, right? For most Americans it is. In contrast, this
decision is already made for families in other countries, such as Germany. A
German couple decided to up root their whole lives to move to America. The
reason for moving to the U.S.: to homeschool their children in order to
continue raising them with their Christian faith. The only problems standing in
their way are escalating fines and threats for refusing to send their children
to a state-approved school by the German government. As a result, they are
seeking asylum from the U.S. government; however, our government refused their
claim. My opinion on this situation is a little on the fence. On the one
instance, it is a little hypocritical for our government to refuse support to a
family seeking religious freedom. On the other hand, we physically could not
help everyone in this situation. At some point, as our government has stated,
these families need to fight their own battles. It is disheartening to think
that there are families in the world who cannot raise their children how they
wish to do so. This definitely makes me rethink my decision on how to educate
my future children and appreciate the options that I am given in doing so.
