2. Category of Problem/Issue identified in article: Health/Medical
3. Level of problem/issue: State
4. An “enacted” policy that has been passed to help with a problem/issue that individuals/families face
5. Why this is important to individuals/families OR How does this affect individuals/families:
This is important to women because it will affect those who seek abortions. It will affect all those that are having clinics closed down in their area, making it harder to get an abortion.
6. What are your views on the issue/policy?
Starting Tuesday, law will go into effect closing abortion clinics in some areas of Texas, making it harder for those wanting to get an abortion where their location has been affected. Last month, Planned Parenhood and the Center for Reproduction lodged a legal challenge last month, seeking to kill the two regulations. I think that it is not a good idea to enact this policy. The regulations are laws requiring abortion providers to gain admitting privileges at local hospitals and restricting the use of pregnancy-ending drugs. These new laws would leave more than 22,000 women without access to the procedure. The two laws enacted would close abortion clinics in Lubbock, Waco, Killeen, McAllen, Harlingen, or Fort Worth as well as clinics in Austin and San Antonio would also stop offering the procedure if the law is upheld. Because some women and mostly men want to illegalize abortion does not mean that those wanting to should suffer. In the end it is up to the woman's choice to have an abortion and a woman's choice only. I have known people that have had abortions because their boyfriends have said it's for the best, or have had some that have made the decision on their own, feeling guilty because someone else said they shouldn't do it. It is entirely up the the woman, whether she thinks that she can emotionally cope with it and thinks it's the best decision for her.
