- This issue affects the quality of life of the animals and owners in Austin area. This also affects the law enforcement agencies who would enforce, prosecuters attempting to prosecute those guilty and animal rights groups.
- All citizens, local or national, should be concerned with this issue to ensure the safety and justice for the animals and people living in the area.
- I believe the way you treat animals says a lot about you. And, this story hit me very hard because it disturbs me to think of the joy people find watching another animal die unnecessarily.
The article interviewed a man who grew up with "cock fights". He is from Mexico and stated that this was a common event, especially at celebrations such as birthdays and Sundays with the family. This gave me a different view on the "sport". I still strongly agree against it, but I can understand that some people may have grown up doing something and are accustomed to it.
The article states that it is difficult to enforce the policy of animal fights because those involved do not speak for several reasons. Some reasons include not wanting to go to jail for participating in an illegal act, and also if they squeal on the institution then they won't be allowed to come back and bet in further games. If they don't want to speak, then they obviously know it is wrong. So, I lost all consideration for their excuse that they "grew up with it". America and Mexico have different laws, if you're going to move to another country then you need to abide by the new laws, not grandfather in the laws you want to come over with.
In conclusion, I hope the law enforcement officers working on these cases are able to prosecute those who are guilty. We have many sports available to watch and gamble on, no one needs to die to keep you entertained.
