District wants Cameras on Buses

2. Public Safety

3. Local level

4. A potential policy that is being considered to help a problem/issue that individuals/families face.

5. This is important for families because it will potentially protect their children on their way from home. It is a policy that should be enforced and will reduce accidents to school children.

6. I think this policy should be put in place immediately. Although there are not a lot of accidents associated with is problem, it would still be safer for many school children. As a driver myself I have been guilty of passing a stopped school bus, but on my part I can honestly say I do it on accident. In my hometown I grew up  in the outskirts of the city and I usually drive on back farm roads. I sometimes forget there are children that live in those areas and I forget I may run into a school bus. On those back roads the speed limit is so high it is almost impossible to stop sometimes without crashing into the bus. Yes, I should be more precarious and keep school zones and school times in mind, but as a human I naturally forget and I'm sure many others do. If this policy is put into place it will reinforce the aw and public safety. This policy will also allow law enforcement to get a hold of the people in violation. In addition to this policy I believe that there should be other policies similar to this put in place. An example would be to train bus drivers or have bus driver assistants who may get off the bus and help the children cross the street. This could still be dangerous to a certain extent, but the school district would still be protecting their students.

  1. I also think that this policy should be put into action. With the population of San Marcos growing, especially young college students, I feel that this is definitely something that needs to happen. I have seen cars zoom by school buses on a regular basis and this is something that is so dangerous. Most cars just pass because they seem to be in a hurry, but in doing this they could jeopardize a students life or severely injure them. People continue to do this because there is no punishment for not following the rule of stopping. If these cameras are placed on these buses, closely watched, and punished for committing this act I think that i will help make these streets more safe and could potentially keep injuries from happening.
