2. Category of Problem/Issue identified in article: Safety
3. Level of problem/issue: State Level
4. A problem/issue that individuals/families face
5. Why this is important to individuals/families OR How does this affect individuals/families:
It is important because there are many motorcycle groups around the U.S. and this could have happened to anybody. This shows how serious this crime can be and hopefully be an eye opener motorcyclist and regular drivers.
6. What are your views on the issue/policy?
My view is that I support the driver of the SUV although he crucially damaged a couple of cyclist severely but he had to act fast to a life threatening situation. He had to do what he had to do to protect his family because they feared for their lives so I feel he acted properly in that specific situation. Their plan was initially to have a family day out with their 2 year old daughter and celebrate their wedding anniversary but instead they were mobbed by violent and reckless motorcyclists. Although people are criticizing the SUV driver because of the injuries he caused but I support him because he only tried to defend himself. I like that the court is handling this case very seriously with what charges they are charging and investigating each individual's actions. This incident could have been any of us and I'm sure if we were the driver in the same situation we would have reacted the same way. I applaud how the driver's wife announced her sympathies for those injured and their family but her husband was forced under circumstances to take the actions he did to protect their family. I just hope the right people get consequences that they deserve for harming innocent people.
