3. Level of problem/issue: Local Level
4. A potential policy that is being considered to help a problem/issue that individuals/families face
5. Why this is important to individuals/families OR How does this affect individuals/families:
This is important to those individuals and families in Georgetown, TX who oppose the commuter railroad. This may affect individuals who oppose due to the fact that it might increase rates of crime.
6. What are your views on the issue/policy?
My view is that it totally depends on the community for this one. It would seem great to have more ways to commute from city to city or from one area to another, but I do see how some of the community thinks that it could increase rate of crime. Elections for City Council will be held November 5 and could determine whether the commuter railroad is a go. With Troy Hellmann moving out of the district, leaving District 2 seat vacant , there was no seventh vote to decide whether it is a go. Both Bonnie Stump and Keith Brainard could cast the swing vote for the next time that the issue is raised. I think that its a great idea to get people to commute faster, since the whole Austin area and cities surrounding it are growing at a fast pace. On the other hand, I feel like train stops can increase crime with people robbing people. I could also see people spray painting graffiti on the walls or the surroundings. I hope that the community can come together and choose whether they are for or against the commuter railroad. I think that it is important that everyone has a say in it, and expresses their opinion so that both Bonnie Stump and Keith Brainard know what the people want. I think that once they know if the community agrees or not, that can help them with the decision when it comes up. I cannot decide whether I think it is a great idea or not. I think it has a balanced amount of pros and cons.
